Your Young Patient Has A High BMI...

"Overweight and obesity may soon cause as much preventable disease and death as cigarette smoking. People tend to think of overweight and obesity as strictly a personal matter, but there is much that communities can and should do to address these problems." - Surgeon General David Satcher in 2003

Taking Care of the Young

The percentage of overweight children has more than tripled over the past three decades. Most communities lack the resources to address this worsening reality in an effective manner.

The obesity epidemic engulfing our children has led to a recent clinical guideline in the July 2008 issue of PEDIATRICS recommending the use of statins in children over the age of eight with hyperlipidemia that is uncontrolled by diet and exercise.
