Clinical Study Description

The intervention group will undergo an initial physician evaluation encompassing a health, family and exercise history, discussion regarding any previous attempts at weight loss, collaborative goal-setting and delineation of an action plan for the individual participant. Measurement of initial height, weight, BMI, body fat percentage, blood pressure and resting heart rate will be completed at this time.

A reminder email will be sent to the participant at the mid-point between planned appointments to encourage adherence to the behavior modification plan. In the intervention group, a personal evaluation will be scheduled every 4-8 weeks including height, weight, BMI, body fat percentage, blood pressure and resting pulse. Cardiovascular endurance will be measured every six months.

Participants in the intervention group will have access to group nutritional counseling on a bimonthly basis.

Family participation is an important component of any long-term behavioral change. Parents are requested to attend the medical and nutritional sessions with their children.
